SharePoint Designer Workflow stopped

I was in the process of creating a simple SharePoint application that would be used by our corporate HR or the respective hiring manager at our firm to request appropriate access for any new recruits. I created a list and used SharePoint designer to change the look and feel of the form (rather than use the default form) and created a new workflow that would send an email to the appropriate persons responsible to provide access. I created a SharePoint group for the service representatives and had the workflow send the email out to the members of the SharePoint group.

When I was testing this, I had myself added to this SharePoint group and found that the workflow was working just as desired. I added a request, got an email sent to the Service Representative group and could edit the list to update the request status, which in turn sent a confirmation email back to the requester. However, when I had some of the users test this, the workflow was not working. I found that the moment the new request was created, the workflow was being triggered but had 'Stopped'. I had to research why this was happening and stumbled upon the solution in a blog. The issue was with the configuration of the SharePoint group that I had created. Since the email was going out to the group and not an individual, all users who could create this service request needed to have access to view members of this group. When I changed this Group Setting, the workflow started working just fine.

Here is what I had to do:
1. Go to Site Actions->Site Settings->Modify All Site Settings.
2. Under Users and Permissions heading, click People and groups.
3. Select appropriate group(s), click Settings -> Group Settings.
4. Under Group Settings area, select Everyone for Who can view the membership of the group, click OK.

Here is the screenshot of the change that needs to be made.

I found this solution at the following link - http://chanakyajayabalan.wordpress.com/2010/01/08/sharepoint-designer-workflow-stopped/.
Thanks to the author of that blog.

Hope you find this helpful.

Finding my blog

Whew! what a start!!

I am a late starter in the world of blogging and boy am I late. When I finally decided to start my own blog, little did I realize that the first hurdle would appear this soon. Like most of my kind, I decided to use a pen name (actually a cyber name) and started to create my profile with a few cool sounding names. I was surprised that even after about 20 minutes of trying various names, I found that every name I could think of, was actually taken. That just reiterated how late I was in joining the world of blogging.

Anyway, now that I have got started, I would like my blog to be a place where I can have a hodgepodge of articles across various subjects. Over the next few days, I will start blogging and hopefully the blogs and links will be useful to the readers.
